January 25, 2005 -- Canspec Group Inc. announced that beginning with the current semester, Spring 2005, it will award two scholarships per academic year to students in the Non Destructive Testing associates degree program in the Community and Technical College of the University of Alaska Anchorage.
This award will support students currently in the NDT program and expects that growing the workforce will encourage growth in the industry.
Successful graduates of the program are encouraged to apply for internships and employment with Canspec.
The scholarship is $2500 per student, per year. Qualifications for this award require that the recipient should demonstrate motivation, academic and leadership potential; be in good academic standing with at least a 2.0 GPA; and be a full-time, associate degree seeking student attending UAA.
Recipients must major in Non-Destructive Testing. Preferences will be given to students who are Alaska residents and who are in their second year of courses in the Non-Destructive Testing program.
Canspec’s Alaska Managing Director Kim Harker feels it is an important step in the company's commitment to the Alaska community and the NDT industry.
"UAA offers the only college level NDT training program in Alaska and we want to encourage technology students to complete this excellent degree program. We hope to forge relationships with the students that will lead to positive internship experiences and prospective employment."
"On behalf of our students we are very grateful to CANSPEC Alaska Operations for their generous contribution for student scholarships. These funds will provide an educational pathway to solid Alaska careers in non-destructive testing," said UAA Community and Technical College Dean Jan Gehler.
