Thanks for your time, and enjoy.
Oscar Lewis Joins HELLIER
Oscar Lewis is the Principal Level III and QA Manager for HELLIER in Houston and comes to HELLIER from Zimmer in Warsaw, Indiana, where he was a Senior Quality Engineer in the NDT Department. Zimmer is the world's largest manufacturer of orthopedic implants. While at Zimmer, he was responsible for internal and external customer NDT training and support, and for maintaining Zimmer's written practice and other NDT related documents. He is an ASNT Level III certificate holder in ET, MT, PT, RT, and UT.
Oscar started his career in NDT as an NDI technician in the U.S. Navy. After leaving the Navy, he went on to get his Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. He has been an NDT Development Engineer and Manufacturing Engineer for Siemens Power Generation and an NDT Supervisor for Shaw Pipeline Services.
HELLIER Alaska is Up and Running
The fourth HELLIER training center is in full operation in Kenai, Alaska. It is located in the community with the largest Alaska oil & gas industry outside of Prudhoe Bay (Prudhoe not a public community). The Kenai also has other thriving industries such as commercial fishing, air transport, government, power generation, chemical production and strong tourism. Many of the Prudhoe Bay workers live on the Kenai Peninsula. The Kenai Peninsula has the third largest population in Alaska after Anchorage and Fairbanks. Kenai is only sixty-five air miles from Anchorage (20 minute flight) and 140 miles by road (2.5 hour drive). With the strong tourism (both lower 48 states and international) it is anticipated that many students will be attending the Kenai courses. As a sidelight, students may also want to spend additional time in the region for the world class sport fishing, down hill skiing and scenery.
Alaska industry is in a boom and has been for the last four years. With the world wide energy need, Alaska is projected to be in a growth mode for the unforeseeable future. This growth includes increased air transport to the Far East, increased tourism, increased petrochemical business, liquefied coal production and gas to liquids production.
While the training center will primarily serve the oil and gas industry, other industries have indicated a great interest. Marty Anderson is the HELLIER Alaska manager and can be reached at: 907-252-7800
The Need For Quality Training in NDT
By Charles J. Hellier, P.E., Level III
Senior Director, Hellier Technical Training and Consulting
What is Meant by Quality NDT Training?
Today, there are many organizations and individuals offering NDT training courses. Most claim that their programs meet the "requirements" of SNT-TC-1A. Those who understand SNT-TC-1A are aware that there are no training requirements in SNT-TC-1A, only recommendations. Further, there are no guidelines or defined rules regarding qualified trainers or training organizations. Virtually anyone can hang out their "NDT School Shingle" and be in business. This is a major problem. So then, what constitutes Quality NDT Training?...
