Method: Ultrasonic Phased Array

Course Name: Ultrasonic Phased Array

Level: Special Courses

Duration: (days) 5

Price: $1,300

Course Description:

This is a one-week course for level II or level III certified conventional UT inspectors and engineers providing a springboard into phased array inspection processes.

The course provides training in the principles of phased array inspection; probe design; scanning techniques; focusing and beam steering; phased array instruments; instruments set up; element checks and calibration; data resolution and collection; software familiarity and data analysis.

Students will perform hands-on exercises to demonstrate the capabilities and imaging displays of phased arrays. Some individual set-ups may be possible. Students are encouraged to bring along their phased array equipment, if available, and samples of their defective specimens for evaluation.

Program Highlights:

  • Ultrasonic phased array technology

  • The ultrasonic phased array probe: Probe types - Probe wedges - Probe characterization - Probe verification

  • Understanding focal laws and beam steering: Beam steering patterns - Linear scanning - Depth scanning - Azimuthal scanning

  • Understanding phased array data displays: The A-scan display - The B-scan display - The C-scan display - The D-scan display - The S-scan display

  • Phased array calibration and system verification: Vertical linearity - Horizontal linearity - Inspection periodic equipment verification

  • Scanning with phased arrays

  • Application examples
